For purposes of elections, Botswana is divided into as many constituencies as there are elected members in the National Assembly. The Delimitation of Constituencies is carried out by a Delimitation Commission established in accordance with Section 64 of the Constitution of Botswana. The Delimitation of Constituencies exercise follows the expiry of ten (10) years after the last comprehensive population and housing census or when Parliament decides to alter the number of seats of elected members of the National Assembly.
The Commission through its Secretary, divides each Constituency into Polling Districts and establish one or more polling stations in each Polling District. The Secretary may from time to time add to the number of polling stations established in a polling district or vary a situation within a polling district of any polling stations in accordance with the provision of the Electoral Act.
